'Tito' to Europe: There is a chance...

Following what was an impressive debut season at Orlando Pirates, Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi has been reminded about the need to remain consistent for the sake of keeping the possibility of returning to Europe alive.

Maswanganyi had 22 goal contributions in 40 appearances for Pirates last term and immediately won over The Ghost.

This season, he will know that he must carry the creativity load on his shoulders in keeping Pirates moving towards winning all trophies that they are competing for.

"There is a chance he can still come back to Europe," says Nadime Mahmoud, who was behind Maswanganyi's move to Portugal in 2019 after taking him from Stars of Africa academy.

Mahmoud is an agent based in Portugal and holds an executive role at Stars of Africa.

In Portugal, Maswanganyi played for lower division club Oliveirense, before switching to Academica's U23 team, following which he came back home to play for SuperSport United for a season, prior to Pirates snatching him.

"The good thing is that he is in a place where he is enjoying his football again and that is important for a player like Tito.

"I don't think Pirates will let him go for easy because the transfer fee is what will determine if he can come back to Europe.

"There are commercial aspects attached to it that must make sense.

"At 26, he is in his peak, and I feel he has his mind on the job.

"Europe is a different space because you are competing with players from the rest of Africa, South America and Europe.

"If he is to come back to Europe, it might be difficult that he goes to a team keen to have a sell-on value on him, but you never know in this game.

"What I like about him is that his mentality is on a different journey now.

"His physical attributes have given him attributes to be a player that he is now.

"He has been able to outnumber the challenges," says Mahmoud.
