‘We don’t have any bad player’

Jose Riveiro believes there is interesting depth and no bad player at Orlando Pirates as he negotiates his way towards the end of his stay at the club.

The Spaniard reshuffled his team for Tuesday’s victory against Golden Arrows, giving opportunities to non-regulars ahead of the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.

Pirates have Kaizer Chiefs standing on their way for the cup.

"I’m not going to lie, obviously we prepared this week not only with our eyes in the final," admits Riveiro.

"We have had to play two games with only three days between the games, so we try to control situations that we can control, which is the management of our players.

"Today, it was time for players like Radio (Boitumelo Radiopane), Yanga Madiba, Karim Kimvuidi to play for the first time in the starting XI.

"It was the second for Melusi (Buthelezi) so it is a clear proof that we have interesting depth in our squad.

"Since day one we have managed to compete in every competition with much more than dignity in my opinion and we are going to do it until the end in the league as well.

"There are a lot of players happy and ready to go and fighting to be in the starting XI," says Riveiro while noting that having widening options is not an issue.

"It is not a problem, it is not a headache, it is an opportunity for us to utilize our players and have more resources, it is an opportunity for Karim to be consistent the next time that he finds himself on the field.

"That is the most important quality in a football player and a football team.

"Every player who is in the squad is here for a reason. We don’t have any bad player. Everybody has something to say, something to contribute in this team.

"There is not always the right opportunity for everyone. We cannot be 100% fair with a squad of 37 players, so they have to be patient.

"They have to keep working, professional, and patient to find opportunities like they did today.

"I’m so happy to have that headache every week and hopefully more are coming," says Riveiro.
