Chiefs debutants update…

The start of the new season for Kaizer Chiefs had the club providing three debuts, while several others have to wait for their opportunity to get their first official minutes.

Chiefs won 1-0 against Stellenbosch FC as they kept their fine winning run against the Western Cape club having now won four in a row.

As expected, there was a start at right-back for Thabiso Monyane following his move from rivals Orlando Pirates.

He played from start to finish.

Of interest was that Naledi Hlongwane was handed a start in making his first-team debut after his promotion from the club’s reserve team.

He put in a decent shift in attack before he was replaced by Ashley Du Preez.

Coming on from the bench for his debut was Siphesihle Ndlovu, who replaced Thabo Cele after 75 minutes.

Development graduate Thulani Mabaso was an unused substitute.

Guinea-Bissau-born striker Flavio Silva was absent due to paperwork-related reasons.

He was playing in Indonesia before his move to Naturena and will need both an international clearance and work permit before becoming eligible for selection.

Also still waiting after joining from European clubs is the pair of Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga, who will also need paperwork to be completed.

The duo have both never played professional football in South Africa and will have their papers coming in from England and Portugal respectively.
