Spanish recognition for Riveiro

Jose Riveiro has been pampered with Spanish praise for making good of his opportunity at Orlando Pirates.

Riveiro has won five trophies at Pirates since taking over in July 2022, earning him the respect of those that doubted him upon his arrival from Finland, where he worked as an assistant before getting his break in 2019.

The five trophies have brought the Soweto giants to within touching distance of surpassing bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs on the PSL trophy haul front with Bucs still in contention for another four trophies this season.

"It is normal that he is not known here in Spain, but his work is what will get him noticed, just like I'm one of those that now recognize his work," says Jorge Barros, the CEO of MSC Sports Management, tells KickOff from Spain.

"To win so many trophies in such a short period of time shows that there is something good about him.

"The fact that he is doing so well at Pirates gives him an opportunity to be known back home here in Spain, being someone who was previously with Celta Vigo, a historic club here.

"He went outside for the opportunity and now it is happening for him, which should be embraced in the global game.

"Just because the opportunity was not there for him here in Spain didn't make him lesser of a good coach and the proof is there in his work.

"Football is about chasing the opportunity and making good of it when it happens, just like the guy has done at Pirates.

"He is doing amazing things with Pirates and long may it continue.

"Unlike some coaches who stick to Spanish here, being in an English-speaking country means his English has improved, making him attractive to a wide market.

"I see that it shows that he was at Celta Vigo's development, which is a massive club here in Spain.

"The foundation was good for him and the proof is there for all to see in his work," says Barros.
