In a game of small margins, it has since emerged that Orlando Pirates' recruit of Stellenbosch FC performance analyst Devon O'Brien could have been the difference in them winning the MTN8 final.
Whether by design or default, Stellies would have been relieved they did not face their former captain Deano Van Rooyen in the MTN8 final, as he was cup-tied after playing just five minutes in the 3-1 quarterfinals win over TS Galaxy.

Though, however, the common sentiment is that the final was decided by a controversial refereeing decision, in favour of the Buccaneers, who won 3-1, with the game tied 1-1 in the last minute.
Tactically speaking, the fine margin of the Soweto giants having O'Brien in their ranks, after they recruited him in the off-season from Stellies, played a role, in how they got the upper hand.
This is especially after Pirates wingback Thabiso Monyane revealed that the analysts at half-time made a difference, in revealing to them the opposition's weakness.
"As you know, we have our analysts and they told us [at half-time] where they are lacking, they showed us the videos and told us their weaknesses, where we should go, what we should be aware of, and that really helped us. It gave us the belief that: 'Guys, let's push, let's press, eventually they're gonna get tired'," Monyane said on Radio 2000's Game On.
"The coach [at half-time] made reference that: 'Hey guys, this is what I'm told', so we can also see the picture. As you know where the goals came from and catching them on a counter, because they were also looking for a goal."
The 24-year-old also revealed they capitalized on Stellies' right-hand side, where Relebohile Mofokeng, who made all the difference with an assist and a goal, was assigned.

"We knew they were gonna come at us, especially with the transitions. We knew on their right side that [Devin] Titus was not gonna drop that much, so we just went for it," revealed Monyane.
Pirates made it 2-1 in the last minute, five minutes after Titus was substituted and went on to get the third goal in added time, after Mofokeng set-up up Tshegofatso Mabasa and scored the third goal.
