'Pirates have signed quality in Mbule'

Former Orlando Pirates striker Katlego Mashego has expressed his approval of Sipho Mbule's signing by the Soweto giants.

The Sea Robbers have announced the acquisition of the 'MasterChef' after he was overlooked by their rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.

The 27-year-old had initially been offered to Chiefs by his agent, Mike Makaab.

However, Amakhosi chose to pass on the opportunity, much to the disappointment of their fans.

"The signing is exciting, it's about time we see his full potential. He's been promising for a while now," Mashego tells KickOff.

"This is a chance he may never get again."

Mashego emphasized that it is up to Mbule to overcome the negative reputation often associated with him.

"It's a personal matter, it comes down to the choices we make. That is up to him, no-one is going to babysit him. He is an adult now.

"At his age, he should know what he wants to achieve. We have all seen what he can do at his previous clubs, and we know his quality from SuperSport United," he added.

"They are signing a quality player, but off-field issues have been holding him back. If he can sort that out, he could make it into the national team.

"Being a Pirates player will provide him with the attention he's never experienced in his life. Ultimately, it's up to him."
