Malepe starred for the Chilli Boys in midfield as they defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 to advance to the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Saturday afternoon.
“First of all I’d like to thank God for everything and the supporters to come and support us. It wasn’t an easy game at all, we had to fight and fight,” the Bucs loanee told SuperSport TV.
“We were wanted to keep the momentum going [after winning the last match in the league]. We’re down there [on the table] and the spirit was down but we won two consecutive games, in the league and Cup. All we wanted to do was to keep the momentum going so we can do well in the league.”
Malepe added that Hlompho Kekana's inclusion in the second half only made things tougher
“By bringing [Hlompho Kekana] in was difficult for me. His legs were fresh. Of course Andile [Jali] was also doing well so I had to fight. It was difficult, but I had to keep going.
“He [Clinton Larsen] said you need to work extremely hard, we need you in the box [in attack] and at the back. Keep going in the last 45 minutes. We’ll get results at the end of the game.
“I was pushing the ball and my head was down and when I looked up he’s out of the posts. I saw him and tried to keep the shot on target,” he said.
