Milutin Sredojevic opens up over addition of Fadlu Davids to Orlando Pirates technical team

Davids was snapped up this transfer window as The Buccaneers opted to bolster the technical team before adding any new players to their squad.

The 37-year-old tactician, who made the transition from striker to coach back in 2012 when he took up an assistant role to current Kaizer Chiefs mentor Ernst Middendorp, has made huge strides in his blossoming career since taking up the head coach role at Maritzburg last season.

Davids led the side to their highest ever finish in the Absa Premiership as well as the club’s maiden cup final in the 2018 Nedbank Cup, in which they fell short of glory after being edged by Free State Stars.

His tenure in KwaZulu-Natal came to a premature end in December, but he has quickly rebounded at Bucs, where he has joined an established system under Sredojevic and Rhulani Mokwena.

The Serbian has now welcomed the arrival of his second understudy as a replacement to the departed former Pirates midfielder Benson Mhlongo and is hopeful that Davids will contribute as positively as he did at The Team of Choice.

“For some time, since Benson left for TS Sporting, we had a gap in our second assistant position, and the club took the chance to bring in Fadlu Davids,” said ‘Micho’.

“We have welcomed him in an organised environment, where he is coming at a time when we are in very good shape to add and contribute from his own aspect as a second assistant.

“I believe there is huge space for whatever we do, because we are never happy and satisfied, we want more. We believe he will give his full contribution and this is what I can say.

“He is welcome; he has come in an organised environment. He has even before … unfortunately now his old team Maritzburg is fighting relegation, but before we played them, he came here and watched 10 of our matches, so he knows us and now comes to add his value.

“Now we look forward and expect him to give his contribution in the best possible way.”
