Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane lauds Lucky Mohomi after Nedbank Cup performance

Mohomi started in midfield alongside Andile Jali in Sundowns’ Nedbank Cup last 32 fixture against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, which Mosimane’s men lost 2-1.

It was only Mohomi’s second start this season, having struggled with injuries and tight competition in the centre of the park where the likes of Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda do battle.

Mohomi has been linked with a loan move to Tshwane rivals SuperSport United recently, but Mosimane is hoping the player will stay and fight for his place in the team.

Mosimane could give Mohomi, Phakamani Mahlambi and Jali – players who have not been playing much recently – another chance when Sundowns take on AmaZulu in the Absa Premiership at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday night (19h30).

“I’m happy with Lucky. I think he played well. For a player who has not been playing for long he played very well. He’s a good football player. He passes well,” Mosimane said.

“Yes, that grit of Mabunda and Kekana in the midfield is a different one, but you can’t not rest the players. If you don’t look after them, Kekana pulls a hamstring and Mabunda, then you don’t have nothing. [Ricardo] Nascimento still has a groin that is giving him trouble. Thapelo [Morena] had flu and Lebo [Maboe] we had to rest him because he’s been playing all the games. We rest Lebo, we rest Kekana.”
