Kgotso Moleko accepting of prior Kaizer Chiefs challenges

Moleko has made just 63 appearances across the past six-and-a-half seasons at Naturena since his arrival from Bloemfontein Celtic in July 2012.

The 29-year-old has constantly been overshadowed by his competition at right-back, which has included Bafana Bafana internationals Siboniso Gaxa and Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and occasionally by makeshift wingback Joseph Molangoane.

He has only once made more than 10 appearances in a season, which was back in 2015/16 during a spell on the sidelines for then-first-choice right-back Gaxa.

However, since Middendorp has come into the picture, Moleko has gained more favour as he’s featured in five of the club’s six league games – only missing their match against Mamelodi Sundowns as well as their CAF Confederation Cup fixtures due to non-registration.

Although this could also be attributed to the absence of Mphahlele and Molangoane, who have been recovering from injuries.

Nonetheless, Moleko refuses to feel hard done by over his limited opportunities.

“It’s a good thing for me that the coach has showed faith in me, but one thing that I can say is that everyone who plays at Chiefs deserves to play at Chiefs,” said Moleko.

“The management are doing a good job to bring a lot of players and some of them deserve to be here, so I can’t complain when I’m not playing.

“If someone I share a position in common with is doing a good job and I don’t have a chance to play, I just need to continue working hard and my luck is now here. But I just need to keep on going now.”
