The Citizens are currently enjoying a five-match unbeaten run, having scored 12 goals over that period, and find themselves fourth on the Absa Premiership standings after 17 games played.
Captain Mkhize says it’s important for the club to continue in this vein to achieve their objectives.
“It’s important for us to keep consistent and keep doing what we are doing as a club because we know we’re now playing the second legs, so the most important thing is to push ourselves and make sure we achieve all the goals we set at the beginning of the season,” he said.
“Every player seems to now be picking up form, performing and doing well, so the team is getting positive results.”
Having started the season off by winning the 2018 MTN8 title, Mkhize feels there is still lots to play for as the second half of the campaign gains momentum.
“We did well in the beginning of the season and won the MTN8, but it doesn’t stop there,” he said. “We have to push for everything that’s still there: the Nedbank Cup, the league and of course the quarters [Q-Innovation]. If we keep on doing well as a club and keep on winning, and the more confident we get from winning, the more we can improve, so I think there’s still a lot to play for.”
City next face SuperSport United in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash at Cape Town Stadium this weekend, a third home fixture in a row for the Cape club, which their skipper hopes will work in their favour.
“It’s always nice to play at home as our supporters always come give us support, and it’s always encouraging when they give us that boost,” he said. “I’m hopeful our home games will give us positive results.”
