Wits will visit Ajax at Coetzenburg Stadium in a first leg tie on Saturday evening, with the Clever Boys arguably the favourites to advance to the Final.
However, Hunt has warned his troops not to read too much into their 2-1 League win at home on August 8.
“We can’t actually underestimate a team like [Ajax]. They are a very good side, and they haven’t changed their team much from last season, so they’ve got good momentum coming into this season,” says Hunt.
“If you look at pre-season, which you shouldn’t really but, I thought they were the best side. Their game against Sporting Lisbon was fantastic – the best I’ve seen a local side play [against a European side] for years.”
Hunt also concedes his side were outplayed by Rodger de Sa’s troops and were fortunate to get the three points in their opening Absa Premiership game at Bidvest Stadium.
“On Saturday we didn’t play well, I thought we were very poor, but it’s a sign of a decent side if you can play poorly and still get a result.
“[Ajax] gave us a hell of a run. It was actually not so much [a case] of us playing badly; I thought they played really well, with good energy,” he adds.
Hunt then pointed out that Wits have never beaten Ajax in the Mother City since he joined the club in 2013.
“We certainly haven’t beaten them down there [in Cape Town] since I’ve been here [at Wits]. We got hammered last season, so what’s for us to say we are going to go down there and win a game of football?”
