'Shabba' has taken over the armband from Tefu Mashamaite, who was given the role by Stuart Baxter last term after an injury sidelined long-serving skipper Itumeleng Khune.
Mashamaite has since joined Swedish club BK Hacken, while Baxter has been succeeded in the Amakhosi hotseat by Steve Komphela.
Tshabalala has to date led Chiefs in a 5-3 win over Maritzburg United in the MTN8, and a goalless draw with Chippa United in the Absa Premiership.
"I'm enjoying the leadership role. It comes with huge responsibility," Tshabalala said ahead of Sunday's MTN8 semi-final first leg with Bloemfontein Celtic at Free State Stadium.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old feels his team displayed character in the come-from-behind defeat of Maritzburg.
"We need to rectify the mistakes from the Maritzburg game. The Maritzburg United game was a test of character. We showed that we are very strong mentally."
He added of the upcoming tie: "The crowd in Bloemfontein will be cheering them. We need to work hard. We want to play well. We want to win."
