It would seem as though Baxter has begun the mind games as United prepare to face The Brazilians in the MTN8 quarter-finals at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.
“I think it will be terrible if Sundowns don't [win everything]," Baxter told reporters on Thursday. "With all their resources, I think they are definitely favored to win everything.
“I will be very upset with them if they don't win anything... We can play those mind games all the way, tut they are going to get it [the favourites tag] because they have been the shining team in the country.
“Similarly at Chiefs, people used to say, 'do you think you will win everything this year? I will say we will go for it but I'm not sure if we will win everything. I think Sundowns will be the same [this season].”
“They are expected to beat us and we are not expected to beat them, so we won't be shy,” he added.
“I'm sure a lot is expected from their team; we expect a lot from ourselves. I think in terms of Sundowns, they have set the bar high in the last couple of years and everybody is chasing to see if they can reach that level.
“We don't know if we can [chase them down] yet, we played one game and I was quite pleased with the performance but not the result.
“So going into this one, it feels like people will be really impressed if we could beat Sundowns, and not too impressed if Sundowns beat us.”
