Chiefs failed to get on the scoresheet against Chippa United in their opening Absa Premiership opener last Sunday, which Komphela is unhappy about.
The former Maritzburg United mentor has called on his team to be more ruthless in front of goal when they face Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 semifinal on Sunday.
"I think it's informed by what we have just gone through that we haven't been freely scoring for whatever reason, maybe because we don't have all the strikers available," says Komphela.
"But the team plays well, we just need to improve on [scoring] and the fact that it is a two-legged affair, we will regard it as one match.
"The first half is in Bloemfontein and the second half in Johannesburg, But the first half is where we need to score and not concede.
"The second half in Johannesburg is the same; when you concede it becomes a serious problem, so no conceding, just scoring."
Komphela is confident that his strikers will come good this season unlike the last campaign which saw a shortage of goals from the team's frontmen.
"Our top goal scorer last season was Mandla Masango with seven goals, I think.
"Strikers have to score. The only thing one can say is: they need to have confidence, courage and composure, because striking is not only technical but also a mental aspect.
"Confidence and courage are not technical; composure is not technical, it is mental, so there are those mental requirements for a striker that, maybe, we need to trigger before you focus on the technical aspect."
Meanwhile, the coach also confirmed that new striker Bongani Ndulula is available for selection along with Siphelele Mthembu.
