Mdabuka has been impressive in the first few matches of the season, scoring the winning goal against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals and also providing an assist in Ajax’s Absa Premiership defeat to Wits last week.
But besides those telling contributions, the former Vasco da Gama man has also been solid and dependable in central midfield and looks set to take his game to new heights this season.
“I’m very excited to play in this cup again and I think we played very well, unfortunately we conceded a stupid goal at the end, but we’ll keep on going,” he said after their 1-1 draw against Wits on Saturday night.
Mdabuka believes Ajax will give Wits a run for their money in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final despite several injuries after Granwald Scott picked up a groin problem.
“We’ll go to them and give them a tough time at our home ground,” he insisted.
“As a team we are having a lot of difficulty with injuries but we are trying to have them back as soon as possible, and then the team will get going again.”
