Orlando Pirates will kick off the 18th edition of the MTN8 under the mobile telecommunications provider sponsorship aiming for further history by adding their fourth title in a row.
The MTN8 is a competition of interest for Pirates as they were the first winners back in 1972 when it was played with oil and gas company BP as sponsors.

Fast-forward to 2025, the Soweto giants will now be targeting becoming the first club to win this competition four years in a row.
The Buccaneers have been winners in the last three years under Jose Riveiro.
To achieve that feat, they will have to go through four games – the first of which will be against Polokwane City on August 2 (15:00) at Orlando Stadium.
They have also been the most successful club in this competition since MTN8 took over in 2008.
