Portuguese coach highlights Chiefs new signing’s attributes: He will add value

Kaizer Chiefs off-season signing Nkanyiso Shinga’s attributes have been detailed by his former coach during his time in Portugal.

Shinga is back home in South Africa after seven years in Portugal where he played in the top division for CF Estrela Amadora then in the second division with FC Alverca and SC Covilha.

KickOff.com contacted his coach at Covilha – Alex – who has also worked at Egyptian giants Zamalek.

"Shinga was a young player from Estrela in the second division when he came to us," remembers Alex of their six-month spell together in 2023.

"It was in January, and we had a possibility to bring him to our team on loan from Estrela Amadora for six months.

"While he was young, he had qualities.

"He played regularly while with, grew, and then returned to his club.

"While with us at Covillha, we played with three defenders and saw potential in him to play offensive, so we used him wide on the left.

"We tried to develop him because offensively he was very good and defensively was still growing.

"He gave us secondary assists, assists and more offensive skills to the team and with time improved defensively.

"At the end of the season he was prepared for the first division having balanced his offensive and defensive play.

"He will make a difference and add value at Chiefs," says Alex.

Shinga's competition at Chiefs will come from Paseka Mako while Bradley Cross can also play in that left-back.
