Maboe has made an impressive start to life at Sundowns following his dream move from Maritzburg United, scoring on his full debut in a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City on Tuesday night.
It’s a goal the diminutive midfielder will forever remember and more will be expected from him in attack going forward.
“It’s actually what every player wants, that on his full debut you obviously want to score. The position I play in requires me to be in the box and create opportunities for my teammates,” ,”Maboe said earlier this week.
“I sat down with our analyst and they showed me how they want me to play and how the team wants to play. That actually helped me because as you can see I have been able to gel with the team.”
Despite Maritzburg saying they don’t want to sell their stars, they ended up selling Maboe to Sundowns and the player feels it was the right time to make the move.
“I felt it was the right time to join such a big club like Sundowns. It was humbling to know that the one day I was training with Maritzburg and the following day I was with Sundowns. It was more like a dream, but when I got here I knew that now is the time to start working again.”
“I had a feeling that it was going to come and I am glad it happened now. I feel like I was ready to join a big club like Sundowns.“
Maboe is likely to be in the starting line-up again when Sundowns host Golden Arrows in the MTN8 at Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow (15h00).
