Chiefs drew 1-1 with Celtic, with the cup holders left to rue a missed penalty at Free State Stadium.
Komphela said: "In terms of how we performed, except the missed penalty, we created enough attempts. But as the old saying goes, you win matches by scoring goals."
The former Maritzburg United boss added that Celtic made their intentions clear by fielding three centre-backs.
"The tactical plan from them was clear with three centre-backs. Having wingbacks, we had the opportunity to use the sides of the field.
"Even in the first half, when they made that sub I thought there would be a change but it stayed the same."
