REPORT: Botes draws Wits and Ajax level
Hunt left his in-form star player Vilakazi on the bench until the 60th minute, with his post-match comments suggesting it was a tactical move due to the conditions not suiting ball-players like Vilakazi.
“You couldn’t play here tonight on this pitch, I mean it’s impossible, so we had to play to the conditions and that’s why I left one or two [of my players] out,” Hunt explained.

“If you look at the first half it was very good. We could have been two or three up there, they had one chance and they scored, and that chance came really from nothing.
“Once they got the one, then in the second half we tried to push, and they had two chances at the death, but all in all you gotta say that a draw is possibly fair.
“But at the end of the day I thought in the first half we were good, we could have made it safe for ourselves and then we could have made a few changes, but we didn’t.”
Hunt saw nothing wrong with his side’s equaliser, which Ajax coach De Sa felt came about after the linesman failed to spot a throw-in for the Urban Warriors before a throw-in was given to Wits.
“I didn’t see any problem there. If you take their first goal, it was a foul as well. It was a foul on Tyson, they pulled him right off the ball so, you know, one against one, that’s how football goes, you win some you lose some, so I don’t think there was anything wrong with our goal,” added Hunt.
The Clever Boys coach also said that he is not thinking about a possible cup final appearance just yet and first needs to bolster his squad numbers.
“I think the most importing thing is we get a few [more players] registered, we’ve got five or six out. That could certainly strengthen our squad and give me a few more options, and with the players that are coming in I think we’ll certainly be much stronger,” he concluded.
