Kaizer Chiefs remain the most successful club in the MTN8, followed by Orlando Pirates, but can you name the winners from the last eight years?
snl24.com/kickoff takes a look back at the eight teams to have won the top eight competition since 2011 as the 2019 edition gets underway today.
Chiefs, who have lifted the trophy a total of 15 times since the tournament's inception in 1972, will play no part in this year's edition after failing to qualify for the first time since 2007 before MTN took over as the title sponsor from SAA.
Pirates are some way behind but have some distance between them and the chasing pack with a total of nine crowns in the history of the competition but last lifted it eight years ago when they bagged their second successive domestic treble.
In recent history, it has been won by the 'smaller' sides within the PSL's 'big six', with Cape Town City defending last year's title, before which SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits claimed the honours.
Ajax Cape Town pipped Amakhosi to the crown back in 2015, after the Soweto giants last felt the weight of the trophy and the R8-million back in 2014, before which Platinum Stars and Moroka Swallows reigned victorious in 2013 and 2012 respectively.
