Bloemfontein Celtic Kaizer Chiefs MTN8 preview

The two sides have met in 11 cup matches down the years, with Amakhosi winning eight of those matches and losing just once.

However, that win was significant. In the 2005 SAA Cup, Celtic beat Chiefs 2-1 thanks to goals from Siyabonga Nkosi and Collins Chabalala en route to winning the competition.

The three cup matches between the teams since that famous Celtic victory have all ended 1-0 in favour of Amakhosi, suggesting a tight encounter could be on the cards at the Free State Stadium this weekend.

In all, the teams have met in 66 League and cup matches since 1985. Chiefs have 39 wins compared to 11 for Celtic, while 16 matches have been drawn.

The Soweto side has not tasted defeat against the Free Staters since the first half of the 2009/10 season – a total of 13 League and cup matches have been played since then, with Chiefs winning seven.
