JUST IN! Durban City clinch automatic promotion

Durban City clinched automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 win over Cape Town Spurs on the final day on Sunday.

The match was played under protest after Spurs claimed City striker Saziso Magawana was improperly registered.

Nonetheless, the protest didn’t faze the Team of Choice, who went to the break in front through a well-taken finish from veteran striker Ruzaigh Gamildien.

The Urban Warriors couldn’t stage a comeback as the Team of Choice held firmly onto their advantage to clinch the victory and outright promotion to the top flight, with Spurs relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.

City did celebrate the triumph, but the trophy handover has been delayed due to the pending Magawana case.

Orbit College 0-0 Leruma United

Orbit College finished their campaign on a high and advanced to the play-offs with a goalless draw against the relegated Leruma United.

With the stakes high for Orbit, the visitors were keen to be no pushovers despite having their relegation to the second tier confirmed last weekend.

One point was enough to get the job done for Orbit, despite not getting on the score-sheet.

Casric Stars 2-1 Hungry Lions

Casric Stars secured third-place and bagged a promotion play-off following a 2-1 win over Hungry Lions at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

There were little between the two in the first half amidst the chances in front of goal and forced them to go to the break goalless.

Stars upped the ante after the break and struck twice in the matter of minutes, but Di Tau got one back though couldn’t stage a comeback as the host clinched victory.

Black Leopards 2-1 University of Pretoria

Black Leopards came from a goal down to get the better of University of Pretoria 2-1 in their last match of the Championship in Thohoyandou.

The boys from the nation’s capital made a strong start and went into halftime on the front-foot, but Lidoda Duvha bounced back afterwards and levelled it up.

AmaTuks looked to have gone back ahead late on through a tap-in from Kgomotso Mosadi, but the match officials disallowed the effort for offside.

Lidoda Duvha proved more accurate and got the winner in the final minutes to fulltime and finished the campaign on a high note.

Results:

Upington City 1-0 Highbury FC

Pretoria Callies 0-2 JDR Stars

Milford Stallions 1-2 Baroka FC

Kruger United 3-2 Venda Football Academy
