The alcohol and substance abuse issues that have led to Kgaogelo Sekgota’s admission into a Limpopo rehabilitation centre have left his former teammate Zequinha concerned.
Zequinha is a former Portugal youth international who was on the books of FC Porto for three years and played with Sekgota at Vitoria Setubal in 2019.

The veteran striker has always taken interest in Sekgota’s career, which has taken him to six clubs – Bidvest Wits, Moroka Swallows, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, Magesi FC, and Upington City – since they last played together.
"I read about Kigi in the local media here in Setubal and felt my heart sink," Zequinha tells KickOff.com.
Sekgota is admitted at the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre near Polokwane with issues related to alcohol and marijuana abuse.
"I believe he will overcome this situation because he is still young enough (28) to still play football.
"It is not good to hear this because he was a good boy who never gave us problems when we played together at Setubal.
"He would only drink one beer when we go out and never had problems with alcohol.
"What I know best is that he just loved dancing.
"This is a boy who was professional in the way he trained.

"Maybe the company of friends was not the best for him since he came back to South Africa.
"I would want to think that he probably started drinking and using other substances because of the frustrations from football with his career not going the way he wanted.
"A footballer’s life can be very lonely at times," says Zequinha.
