Pick and shovel as Hunt gets latest gig going

Three days shy of his 61st birthday, top coach Gavin Hunt has officially joined topflight football returnees Durban City FC as they become the ninth PSL club of his illustrious coaching career.

Hunt started out at Seven Stars in 1995 shortly after the end of his playing days, and has since gone on to be at the helm of Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United (twice), Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, and Chippa United.

For his new adventure, he has accepted the head coach role at Durban City, who gained automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after winning the championship in the second tier last term.

Although the club that previously went by the name Maritzburg United is yet to make an official announcement, the three-time league-winning tactician was seen at their training ground on Monday, preparing to oversee his new team.

The duration of Hunt's contract at his new employers is also yet to be disclosed.

He will officially begin training the team on Tuesday.

Despite enduring a tough season with Matsatsantsa last term, leading to a mutual parting of ways in March, the former fullback is recognized as one of the most successful coaches in the league.

He has also been named PSL Coach of the Season twice.

Under Hunt's leadership, Durban City FC is expected to enhance their squad with new signings.
