Baroka ropes in former Bafana keeper

Former DStv Premiership club Baroka FC have roped in Shu-Aib Walters to boost their technical staff.

The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was on the Bakgaga bench during Saturday's Global Tournament that was hosted at the Baroka Village in Lebowakgomo.

The tournament that pitted the likes of Magesi, Venda FC and Baroka was won by the latter.

"Limpopo is my new home, at least for now, I was brought in by the Baroka management just to come and help out the goalkeeping department for the pre-season," Walters tells KickOff.

"It's more like on a consultancy, most clubs are not really taking goalkeeper coaches seriously.

"And clubs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship don't really have money to hire a qualified goalkeeper coach.

"So, I'm offering the consultancy with regard to that, you know coming in for a month to help the goalkeeper coach, giving him training for the week.

"So, I'm just educating the goalkeeper coaches, and giving them a little bit of modern-day goalkeeping.

"The Baroka goalkeeper coach I've already given him a micro psycho and goalkeeper assessment form.

"So Baroka management said to me look, our technical department doesn't really have the experience of professional playing days or even coaching experience and the first coach now was an assistant to his first assistant now.

"So, it's just to help the technical team wherever I can or wherever they need me.

"So, the deal is looking good I think the chairman wants to extend it to the first day of the season.

"If a permanent position were to come here, I'd have to weigh up my options and speak to my family, because I still have my academy in Johannesburg.

"Today [Saturday] we lost the first match to VFA, it was a three-team tournament, so the team with the most points won, fortunately for us every team won just one game and we had a better goal difference after beating Magesi 3-0 in our second game."
