Lebohang Maboe not surprised by how quickly he has adapted at Mamelodi Sundowns

Currently in camp with the senior national team, Maboe has taken little time to become a key member of the Sundowns starting line-up.

Many might have thought that the 24-year-old was making the wrong move by joining the star-studded defending champions from Maritzburg United in August, but he has played in every match this season in all competitions.

While there are those that may be surprised at how quickly he has established himself as one of Pitso Mosimane’s main men in midfield, Maboe says he was expecting this.

“I was expecting it actually, knowing the fact that I am working hard on and off the field, so it’s something that I expected. I was just waiting for that one opportunity and when I got it I did not disappoint,” Maboe said.

“It’s [about] believing in your ability and believing how good you are that keeps you on the field, and keeps the coach believing. I believe in myself and that’s why I am playing.”

To ensure that he keeps on playing regularly for both club and country, Maboe knows exactly what he needs to do.

“I need to be clinical in front of goals and make the right decisions in the final third.”

He’s scored two goals and has as many assists this campaign. This is something he will be looking to improve on as things progress.
