Mamelodi Sundowns maestro Themba Zwane has opened up about how a former teammate helped him during a lengthy and difficult recovery period that kept them sidelined for over four months.
The 35-year-old suffered an Achilles tear while on national team duty against Congo in Brazzaville in October last year.

Speaking on SuperSportTV, Zwane made it a point to extend a word of gratitude to Sibusiso Vilakazi. The pair had been teammates at Sundowns between 2016 and 2022, and 'Vila' himself is no stranger to career-threatening injuries.
"Obviously, when I started this journey of recovery, it was difficult, and you are one of the people I was talking to you helped me a lot, my brother, and I really appreciate it," Zwane said when asked by Vilakazi, who was serving as a post-match analyst on Sunday.
"Going forward, I want to push. I want to push myself, push the team and for me, I want to finish my career on a high.
"Vila went through this situation before. Obviously, when he called me and we started talking, he made me realise that it was not over.
"He told me that these things happened. I just need to stay positive, I just need to follow the right protocol, do the recovery very well and stay positive. I really appreciate him.

Zwane has also recently signed a new one-year deal with Sundowns, keeping him at Chloorkop until the end of next season. By then, he will be 36, and his sentiments indicate that the next could be his last.
