Buthelezi: Sundowns proved money can buy love

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Linda Buthelezi says the club's recent success proved that money can buy love.

On Saturday, Sundowns finally got their hands of the DStv Premiership title, making it seven straight season as champions and 14 since the inception of the Premier Soccer League in 1996.

The 1-0 loss to Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld on the weekend was coach Rulani Mokwena's first-ever league defeat this season and also ended the team's hopes of finishing the league campaign unbeaten.

Prior to the defeat to the Eric Tinkler's men,  Sundowns last experienced a defeat in a league match against Tshwane rivals SuperSport United in 2022.

"Sundowns is forever on our lips because they've done a lot of great things, which we are happy to see," Buthelezi tells KickOff.

"What Patrice Motsepe wanted is becoming a reality. First of all, for me, it proves money can buy love.

"That shows with the way Sundowns have been making us as former players happy.

"It's nice to see the boys winning and at the same time making money. The boys proved that the sky is the limit if a club owner respects his players.

"There are club owners that don't respect their players, hence they are not progressing.

"We must thank Patrice Motsepe for turning Sundowns into what it is today. They had a great season Sundowns, they also did well in continental football this season.

"Fatigue is what prevented them from reaching the CAF Champions League final, it was my wish to see them playing in the final."
