We wuz robbed? Rulani cries foul on Ribeiro PSL awards omission

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has expressed his disappointment about the absence of Lucas Ribeiro Costa among nominees for the  PSL awards this season.

The Premier Soccer League announced the 2023/24 PSL Awards nominees on Friday, with the Sundowns duo of Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena vying for the prestigious Footballer of the Season accolade alongside Iqraam Rayners.

Mokwena is nominated together with Steve Barker and Jose Riveiro for the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award.

Brazilian youngster Ntando Nkosi, meanwhile, is in the running for the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season.

Mokwena believes Khuliso Mudau could have also been considered for the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season honour after his performances this campaign.

"I am disappointed (about Lucas Ribeiro Costa). He has been phenomenal. I think he has been unlucky with his injuries. He has not played many games in his career. Phenomenal footballer and a phenomenal human being. He is incredible.

"Yeah, one of the best players I have coached from a gift perspective and still a player that I still think can improve so much more, and that is probably even scary thought, in his first season how has done and has performed," said Mokwena after the DStv Premiership match against Cape Town City in Tshwane on Saturday.

"I could say the same about (Marcelo) Allende. I am disappointed also not to see him among the nominees. I think 'Sailor' (Khuliso Mudau) had a good season also and he is not part of the defenders at the very least.

"Okay, you can't have the cake and eat it. You have to celebrate the nomination of  Ronwen (Williams), the nomination of 'Scara' (Ntando Nkosi) who I think has been superb with the Diski especially, and the nomination of Tebza (Tebogo Mokwena)," added the tactician.
