BLOW for Sundowns as Shalulile faces potential extended period on sidelines

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a potential blow after head coach Rulani Mokwena hinted at an injury being the reason for talismanic striker Peter Shalulile's extended absence in recent weeks.

Shalulile was a notable absentee as Sundowns clinched a narrow 1-0 win over a resolute Marumo Gallants in a DStv Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

Sphelele Mkhulise proved the match-winner after grabbing the decisive goal in the 28th minute as Masandawana returned to the top of the standings.

The Namibian striker has missed the Brazilians' three previous encounters including a two-legged CAF Champions League tie against La Passe before Wednesday's league clash.

"We will update you as he's got a bit of a complicated situation," Mokwena said post-match.

"We are trying to see various specialists and get different opinions.

"So, anything that I say will just be based on suspicion and not factual.

"So, let's wait a little bit and the club will give an update, but at the moment he is unavailable as there is a bit of a complication with Peter.

"When I say complication, I mean muscular, nothing else, just muscular, so let's wait as we're trying to get different opinions and feedback from different specialists and the club will give proper feedback."

Meanwhile, striker Abubeker Nasir has made a return to training following injury and is believed to be in contention to face Orlando Pirates in an MTN8 semi-final second leg at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
