Sirino walks on with charm effect

Gaston Sirino’s latest trophy addition to his silverware collection in South Africa has pushed him to further new heights.

Sirino scored from the penalty spot on Saturday as Kaizer Chiefs went on to end a decade-long wait for silverware with a 2-1 win over their biggest rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Nedbank Cup becomes the 13th trophy that the Uruguayan has won since he arrived in Mzansi from Bolivia in January 2018.

The 34-year-old is already the only footballer to have won seven league titles in a row in his first seven years playing top-flight football in South Africa.

Besides the latest addition, his silverware collection with The Brazilians also has two Nedbank Cups, Telkom Knockout, MTN8 and the African Football League.

In lifting the Nedbank Cup, it means he has won silverware every season throughout his time in the PSL.

His trophy magnet charm has been taken note of back home, where his name got rare media attention on Sunday.

The cup success at Chiefs comes on the back of Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat, and Ramahlwe Mphahlele having all found no trophy joy at the Soweto giants after moving directly from Sundowns in recent years.

There were also no trophies won for Keagan Dolly and Edward Manqele after they played for the Tshwane giants and then arrived at Naturena via other clubs.

Yet, for Sirino, he is now the master of winning trophies having also been a league winner in Bolivia with Club Bolivar prior to joining Sundowns.

"I’m here to help and win trophies," pointed out Sirino in the days leading to Saturday’s final.

"I want to fight for the trophy.
