'Chiefs finishing in the Top Eight would make this season a success'

The only thing that can save Kaizer Chiefs from their disappointing season is a Top Eight finish, according to former player Isaac Mabotsa.

Amakhosi face a challenging match against Polokwane City FC this Saturday in the Betway Premiership, which is their league match of the season.

Chiefs currently sit in ninth position on the PSL log table, and securing all three points is crucial for them to qualify for next season's MTN8 Cup.

The Glamour Boys have already celebrated a significant achievement this season by ending a 10-year trophy drought with their victory in the Nedbank Cup.

However, Mabotsa insists that all of this will mean nothing if Nasreddine Nabi's team fails to finish in the top eight.

"Kaizer Chiefs need to secure a Top Eight finish on Saturday," Mabotsa tells KickOff.

"They performed well in the Nedbank Cup, so they must build on that and win against Polokwane City. They have experienced how sweet it is to play in a cup final.

"They need to win this game. Finishing in the Top Eight would make this season a success for them. It's do or die," he added.

"I'm confident that if they qualify for the Top Eight tomorrow, everyone will celebrate just as they did when they lifted the Nedbank Cup.

"Achieving both the Nedbank Cup and a Top Eight finish would be quite an accomplishment. While winning the Nedbank Cup brought joy to everyone, it won't erase the disappointment of a poor 2024/2025 season.

"Yes, they made many people happy by winning the Nedbank Cup, but the cherry on top has to be a place in the Top Eight."
