Chiefs coach: We need signings, but...

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has doubled down on his stance over the club's January transfer business but defended his squad after a defeat to Cape Town City.

Amakhosi's top four ambitions suffered a major dent as they fell 1-0 at the hands of their former coach Muhsin Ertugral, who was appointed as Cape Town City's interim head coach last week.

A second-half goal from Darwin Gonzalez was enough to hand the Soweto giants their fourth loss in five matches and a fourth for the season.

They are in seventh spot on the Betway Premiership table after a less-than-impressive start to 2024/25.

With the January transfer window open, the head coach has a chance to reinforce the side.

Speaking at the post-match press conference at Cape Town Stadium, The Tunisian-Belgian conceded the need for signings but insisted he would not label Chiefs' current players as 'not good'.

"It is obvious, when you look at the squad, that we feel that there is a need to strengthen the team," Nabi said, via assistant coach and translator Cedric Kaze.

"But we don't want to throw our players under the bus saying that they are not good.

"No, they are good. Today, they are in our squad, they are in our team, but in every transfer window we will take the opportunity to try to strengthen the team.

"The club is working hard to find the best opportunities that are possible, and we hope that everything can improve our squad," he added.
