Nabi’s optimism induced at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has expressed hope that the 2025/26 season will turn out better with the signings that have been made by the club.

Chiefs have been active in this window, bringing up to 10 players, and through that they have made an encouraging start to the season.

Three wins, plus the draw against champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, places Amakhosi second on the standings.

There has been an evident improvement in defence, while the options up front will be wider.

"The players we have brought, during the season we had a lot of work about our defensive structure, not only the defenders but the whole team to defend together, to play together," says Nabi, speaking via Cedric Kaze.

"And as well when you speak of (Thabiso) Monyane and (Paseka) Mako, Mako is a left-back and remember last season we said that we didn’t have a player who is a specialist in that position.

"(Bradley) Cross is a centre-back.

"TT (Thatayaone Ditlhokwe) was a centre-back.

"(Edmilson) Dove, a centre-back.

"But now we can say we have a player that is specialised in that position and that is not forgetting about Reeve (Frosler), who is a very good player that we have a chance to play.

"And as well the new players that we have brought in, it is for the moment and as well the future because there are as well young players that we have brought for us to not have to do big investments for the future.

"We believe that the team will be better this season.

"About (Flavio) Silva, his last game was in the Toyota Cup against Ghana (Asante Kotoko) and today was a big game and to throw him out there after he has spent probably months without having a competitive game will have been not (ideal), so that is why we decided to keep him.

"But we are pretty sure in the future he will help," says Nabi, who is yet to use both his new strikers Etiosa Ighodaro and Silva.

"I believe that to continue to work and as well besides, there are other players that are coming.

"Other strikers are coming and more work we believe that we will more… we will have the killer instinct in the future.

"And as well today we played against a big team of Sundowns with great defenders.

"When I say that there are even other strikers coming, it doesn’t mean that those who played today played bad.

"For example, (Wandile) Duba, he made so many runs and pressed so hard and sometimes when you run too much, you lose a little bit of freshness when you get inside of the goal," says Nabi.
