Chiefs' surprise Monyane decision explained

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has explained the decision to substitute new signing Thabiso Monyane.

Amakhosi continued their bright start to the season with a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. New signing Siphesihle Ndlovu provided the match-winning goal.

The insustrious midfielder is one of three new signings that made an appearance on the night.

The other two were former Orlando Pirates duo Monyane and Pasela Mako, who were brought on as substitutes.

Interestingly, Monyane was withdrawn from the field and replaced by Reeve Frosler as well in the second, raising questions from sections of the Amakhosi fanbase.

"It was a technical decision, a tactical one too," Kaze told joirnalists in the post-match press conference.

"We felt that we had the advantage, especially on the right, as well as the left back of Polokwane City, having already a yellow card.

"We felt that even in the first half, there was a half space, that on the right side, there was a lot of space. There were a lot of things that could have been done, especially going forward.

"We know that Reeve is a very clever player, especially going forward. He knows how to get into these pockets, and as we cannot forget that it is a second game in three days. It was tough for Monyane to finish the game, even [Bradley] Cross."

The win takes Chiefs up to second on the Betway Premiership table with a perfect record of two wins and two clean sheets from their two matches.

The next test for Amakhosi comes on Tuesday against Richards Bay.

The match will be played at FNB Stadium.
