Zwane defends Chiefs players after humiliating AmaZulu thrashing

Head coach Arthur Zwane has come to the defence of his Kaizer Chiefs players following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to AmaZulu in a DStv Premiership clash on Friday evening.

The Soweto giants were outclassed by Romain Folz's Usuthu side at the Moses Mabhida Stadium thanks to goals from former Chiefs duo Dumisani Zuma and Ramahlwe Mphahlelwe, alongside Sede Dion and Bongi Ntuli.

"I think all the players that played did fairly well, to be quite honest," Zwane said post-match.

"It was just one of those days where if you make a mistake, then you get punished. They [AmaZulu] made a lot of mistakes as well but we just didn't capitalise on that.

"If I look at the overall performance of the team, maybe the entire first-half we were in their half. They were just looking for the space to break for a counter-attack, and they played from second balls as well. So to be quite honest, I think the boys tried their best.

"At some stage we were dominating, we could score at any given time but unfortunately it didn't happen but the boys did well."

Following the defeat, Amakhosi remain in fourth position on the DStv Premiership table and missed out on the chance to leapfrog SuperSport United, who fell to a defeat to Golden Arrows last week.

Chiefs take on log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night at FNB Stadium.
