How returning PSL coach turned down big money for Chippa

An excited Luc Eymael has spoken in detail about his new job after being appointed the successor to Sinethemba Badela in the Chippa United head coaching seat.

The details of Eymael's contract with Chippa have not yet been disclosed to the public, and according to the Belgian, the club has not provided him with any specific mandate for this season.

In an interview with KickOff.com, the well-travelled mentor discussed his move to the Gqeberha-based outfit.

"I have yet to receive my work permit, and to be honest, the club has not given me any mandate. They trust my work. Last Thursday, I was planning to travel back to Congo when my representative and Chippa United reached out to me," Eymael explained.

"We conducted a group video call with a lawyer, and we signed an agreement. I then informed the chairman of the club in Congo that I would not be returning because I had received a formal offer.

"It’s not about the money; the offer in Congo was better than what Chippa United offered me. I have been wanting to return to South African football for a long time.

"Now that I'm here, we have to take one game at a time, and today's match (against Richards Bay FC) is a must-win. We need to improve the team's performance because they don’t deserve to be in the position they are currently in, as a club like Chippa United.

"Hopefully, we will get the work permits for our two important players: one centre-back and one winger.

"I have analyzed the goals we conceded, and we are working to correct all our mistakes in training. The players have responded well in terms of discipline.

"My target was to come to South Africa and not just talk but also deliver," he continued.

The Chilli Boys currently lie 15th on the log, and face fellow strugglers The Natal Rich Boyz, who are placed 6th, at the Princess Magogo Stadium (19:30).
