The Buccaneers meet Etoile du Sahel in Sousse on Sunday in the second leg of the Final after they were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Orlando Stadium last weekend.
Kick-off has been brought forward to 16h00 (SA time) due to security concerns in Tunisia.
"It's important for South African football to be also be counted there with the giants of African football. So I'm very happy for Orlando Pirates," Mphahlele says.
"I've watched their game when they played the team from Tunisia. They played well, it was just they were unfortunate with the set-piece. I felt for them when they scored. But it is going to be difficult going away to Tunisia.
"I just hope and pray that the referee is good on the day because I know how it can be in Africa playing away from home.
"I just hope the referee is good and Pirates play well on the day. Obviously after all these long flights, sleeping at the airport, connecting to Dubai, the best thing they can do for themselves and South Africa is to bring the cup home because at the end of the day you will have something to show for it."
The Bafana Bafana international adds: "I know they know they have to bring the cup home and I wish them all the best on Sunday.
"We will be watching them and it is important for a South African team to win the competition.
"It will put us on the map also and other teams like Chiefs and Sundowns to start taking the CAF competition seriously."
