The African Team of the Year was announced in Abuja, Nigeria on January 7 as part of CAF's annual awards ceremony.
Gabon attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the big winner on the night, breaking Yaya Toure's stranglehold on the African Player of the Year prize.
"Obviously it was an honour to be part of the likes of Yaya Toure and Aubameyang and Andre Ayew to make an 18-man squad. For me it was a great achievement," Erasmus tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"It will be something that I will cherish for the rest of my career but you know life goes on. I have to keep on grinding and doing what I know and that is playing football."
Erasmus was the leading scorer domestically last season with 16 strikes, while he attracted continental attention with five goals in Pirates' run to the Confederation Cup Final in November.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old says the Buccaneers' character was on show yet again in their come-from-behind 3-3 draw with Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night.
"It's great character we showed and it shows what character we have in the team," says Erasmus, who scored his side's final goal in a man-of-the-match display at Harry Gwala Stadium.
"We have soldiers and I think we showed that in Africa. It is one of the things we are known for and we showed that and I'm sure the fans loved it."
Bucs are 11th on the league table and next face struggling Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park on Saturday.
