The Equatorial Guinea international made a meal of Jele’s own misdirected clearance as Etoile du Sahel edged Pirates 1-0 in Sousse to take the trophy 2-1 on aggregate.
Ovono has shown glimpses of brilliance in his time with the Soweto giants. However, he has looked shaky at times with many still questioning his quality.
Jele says the 22-year-old goalkeeper will grow from his mistake.
“He's still young, he has been doing very well for his country,” Jele says.
“I believe this is a lesson [the mistake] for him. The mistake will build him, it will build him for the future.”
Jele admits the Buccaneers missed regular captain Oupa Manyisa, who missed both the semi-final and final due an ankle injury.
“Oupa [Manyisa] is obviously a good player,” he says.
“It happened with Brighton [Mhlongo] as well. We lost him and we had some great players who did the job for us to get to the Final. We missed him [Oupa] but the guys that got a chance played their part as well.”
