Wydad Casablanca to announce Faouzi Benzarti as Miguel Gamondi replacement

Wydad Casablanca are poised to announced Faouzi Benzarti as their next head coach after a tumultuous 2019/20 season.

The Botola giants started last season with huge ambitions after winning the Botola Pro and finishing as runners-up in the controversial abandoned CAF Champions League final.

However, the ended trophyless with Gamondi finishing off the campaign as their fifth coach in the hotseat, ending the season with the 5-1 drubbing to Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly in the semi-final of Africa's elite club competition.

Gamondi, who served as the club's technical director prior to his appointment as caretaker coach was subsequently offered an ultimatum of leaving within their restructure or returning to his administration role.

And the Moroccan giants have now secured his successor in the form of 70-year-old Benzarti who will now assume his third stint with the North African outfit.

According to LeSport 360, the nine-time Tunisian League winner has agreed a one-year deal in principle with WAC, where he won the 2018/19 title before an abrupt exit.

Benzarti is expected to be unveiled later this week as club president Said Naciri looks to restore the reputation of Wydad after a disastrous 12 months.
