Njabulo Blom closing in on double Kaizer Chiefs milestone

Blom played a starring role for the Amakhosi over the weekend as the club recorded an impressive 1-0 away victory over their Moroccan opponents, with the 21-year-old registering the assist for Samir Nurkovic's match-winning goal.

His contribution in Casablanca helped ensure that Chiefs are now within 90 minutes of reaching their first-ever Champions League final when they meet Wydad for the return leg on Saturday – a feat made all the more remarkable when considering the Sowetan giants had never previously progressed beyond the qualification stage of the competition.

Blom has been instrumental throughout the club's campaign, featuring in all 13 matches thus far, and would make his 50th appearance in the famous gold and black jersey if he features for Arthur Zwane's side this coming weekend.

The versatile youngster made his professional debut for Chiefs back in October 2019, during a league clash against Golden Arrows, and is currently enjoying a breakthrough season at Naturena where he has become a mainstay in the starting XI.

Despite his relative youth, Blom has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet under both Zwane and his predecessor, Gavin Hunt, and has featured in 44 matches across all competitions this season – the joint-most by any Chiefs player alongside Daniel Cardoso.

With his star continuing to rise, the 1999-born star will be hoping to mark his milestone achievement by guiding his club through to the grandest stage in African club football, where they could meet either Esperance or a Pitso Mosimane-led Al Ahly for a shot at glory.
