Dumisani Zuma targets CAF Champions League success for Kaizer Chiefs

Amakhosi host the Tanzanian giants at FNB Stadium (18h00) aware of the need to win by a wide margin considering that they will then have to swim in crocodile-infested waters in the second leg in Dar es Salaam next week.

That Chiefs will play in hostile conditions at their fortress Benjamin Mkapa Stadium – where fans are allowed – is an understatement as Simba are known to employ dirty tricks in their desire to win, which is why they remain unbeaten there since 2013.

"We are ready for the quarterfinals and we know very that it will not be an easy match, but we must take advantage that we are playing at home and win with a bigger margin because it is difficult playing away," says Zuma.

Though the 25-year-old hasn't had the best of seasons, he came off the bench to give Chiefs the energy in their last Champions League match away at Horoya and so will be encouraged to make the difference again in this win-at-all-costs contest.

Chiefs have struggled on the domestic front, with their continental campaign the only place where they have found joy.

"Once we win with a bigger margin score it is going to help us ease up things when we go away. We played against Swallows [on Wednesday] and we know very well that PSL teams and the CAF Champions League teams are different. We tried our best in that game unfortunately we got a draw when we wanted a win.

"However, I am happy that we didn't lose the game because that is going to motivate us as well for Saturday's game so that we play with determination with preparations having gone well. We are still building from our last game [against Horoya].

"We are happy that we qualified for the quarterfinals and it is the first time that as Kaizer Chiefs we qualify for the quarter-finals. As players we are grateful and ready to take this challenge. We are not there to make numbers but to go further in the competition. The important thing in these ties is not to lose both home and away," he says.

Zuma is yet to put in a full shift in all 17 appearances he has made this term.
