Maritzburg coach Davids played an influential role on the pitch when the now-defunct Silver Stars won this competition in 2006 under the tutelage of Da Gama.
Da Gama says he is pleased to see the 37-year-old has successfully transitioned to coaching after hanging up his boots.
“Davids, I think he had two assists in that match when we won that final in 2006, when Simba Marumo scored two goals,” Da Gama said.
“We go a long way back. I’m very happy for Davids that he has progressed, he has been very patient. I know he was actually offered this [Maritzburg] job sometime ago and he refused, saying he first wants to learn and grow as an assistant coach.
“And he eventually took over as coach and I’m very proud. I think he is a quality coach and he is one for the future, there is no doubt about that.
“I’m sure when we meet we will talk about what happened in 2006, but at the end of the day we understand that we are professionals. We understand that this is a very important match for Maritzburg and Highlands Park.”
