Maritzburg United defender Rushine De Reuck looking to bag first home win

Maritzburg will host Highlands Park at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday in the last-16 of the Telkom Knockout, having not won on home soil since beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals in April last season.

However, De Reuck insists getting a home draw for their tournament opener will work to their advantage in KwaZulu-Natal.

"It is definitely going to be an advantage. We get great support here at Harry Gwala Stadium and we thank the fans for that," De Reuck said.

"I think it is time to give them something to smile about. We've got a good fan base here supporting us through thick and thin.

"I think it is a very good boost for us actually to be playing at home."

Meanwhile, De Reuck says he learnt a lot from veteran defender Bevan Fransman, who moved from Maritzburg to Highlands in the off-season.

"In South Africa it is Bevan Fransman, I played under him last season," he said.

"He taught me a lot and I just picked up a few things from him. I also like Robyn Johannes at Bidvest Wits.

"Overseas it's Sergio Ramos [of Real Madrid], Gerard Pique (of Barcelona), footballing players who like to build from the back."

The Team of Choice, who were knocked out of the TKO by the now-defunct Platinum Stars in 2017/18, reached the semi-finals of the event in 2010 where they lost 3-0 to Orlando Pirates in the last-four. That was the furthest they have gone in the competition.
