Bafana pulled off arguably the biggest upset at the Africa Cup of Nations when they knocked out hosts Egypt over the weekend and now they've now booked themselves a date with Nigeria in the quarterfinals at Cairo International Stadium tonight.

Tovey, who remains the only captain to lead Bafana to the AFCON title back in 1996, says Bafana should go out to play with the guts and guile which saw them overcoming the Pharaohs in front of a packed stadium on Saturday.

"As a player, I'd like to have treated every game as though it was my last and that's how you've got to build up to think. You've got to give it your all, there's no holding back and I'm glad that we showed ourselves [against Egypt] because it looked like we needed to be unshackled," Tovey said.

"Let's go out there and play with the South African flair that we know we can play with and the guile and creativity within the conforms of a very organised team. I believe we can beat anybody at this tournament, we can absolute anybody and I mentioned this well in advance to this tournament."

Bafana played the Nigerians twice during the qualifiers, winning one and drawing the other.
