
AFCON 2019: Nigeria's Odion Ighalo on Bafana Bafana challenge and historic loss in Uyo
Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo believes the AFCON 2019 quarter-final against Bafana Bafana will be more challenging than their victory over reigning champions Cameroon. The Super Eagles take on South Africa at the Cairo International Stadium tonight with a place in the last-four of the continental showpiece up for grabs. READ: Bafana Bafana are favourites for AFCON - Rohr Ighalo fired the Gernot Rohr's side past Cameroon in the last-16 with a brace in a thrilling 3-2 win but he insists a harder challenge awaits. "We know it's going to be even more difficult than the Cameroon game, these guys are very fast," Ighalo said. "They are not physical like Cameroon but they are very fast - they can play good football. "I believe we are going to put in a good fight and make sure that we make Nigeria proud." The 30-year-old Shanghai Shenhua striker went on to play down the defeat in Uyo last year, which marked the first generation to lose to South Africa in a competitive fixture. READ: Lorch lauds Baxter tactics "We lost to them during the qualifiers for this tournament and it was very difficult and some of us were not there and we drew in South Africa," Ighalo explained. "But this is the AFCON now it's the quarter-finals so it's going to be a different ball game. "It's going to be a tough game, South Africa are an even better side compared to the team we played last in Nigeria, so we are ready." Ighalo has scored 13 goals in 30 appearances for Nigeria since making his intenational debut in 2015.
