Super Sub keeps Arsenal title hopes alive

Arsenal moved four points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with 2-0 win away to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

With Kai Havertz recently added to the injury list, Leandro Trossard was deployed as the number nine while Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri started on the respective flanks.

The make-shift front three certainly affected the way in which Mikel Arteta's charges usually as Nwaneri looked like the only attacker who was capable of making things happen.

Ultimately, it was a disappointing opening 45 minutes from both teams, as they only managed one shot on target a piece, none of which required any big saves.

The performance from the away side in the first was quite surprising considering they are the one chasing down league leaders Liverpool, who are only in action on Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Gunners looked a bit more livelier in the second half as Nwaneri did well to pick out captain Martin Odegaard, who unleashed a strike from 20 yards that sailed inches over the crossbar.

Arteta went for a different approach upfront by throwing on midfielder Mikel Merino to lead the line, with Sterling making way after a quiet performance on the left-flank.

The decision paid off with ten minutes to play when the influential Nwaneri did well to pick out Merino, who rose well and headed into the bottom corner.

The Gunners ended any hopes of a Leicester comeback when Merino bagged his and the team's second goal in the 87th minute by turning home Trossard's cross at the far post.
